Piling in Manchester

Mini Piling Contractor in Manchester for Extensions & New Builds

We carry out mini piling across Manchester for house extensions, new builds and structural projects where traditional foundations aren’t suitable.

Most of our work is for extensions where ground conditions, trees or existing drains mean deeper foundations are required and are either impossible to achieve or too costly. Using small, bottom-driven piling rigs, we can install piles in restricted access areas without the need for large machinery or piling mats.

We also undertake piling for new build developments and underpinning works across Greater Manchester.

The piles and reinforced ground beam shown here were installed for a home extension in Swinton, Manchester. As you can see, the ground conditions were poor and consisted largely of backfill. Drainage services were also present at awkward heights — a common issue with piling projects on new builds.

Where possible, services can pass through the beam. However, when multiple services sit at different levels, excavating to the lowest level can be costly. On this project, we stepped the beam, avoiding unnecessary excavation and helping keep overall costs down. If there’s a way to reduce your spend without compromising the design, we’ll always advise you.

At this stage, building control inspected the piling and beam prior to concrete being poured.

The job here at Worsley was for a new build house. Here you can see the piles have been installed and we are part way through installing the reinforcement that sits on top of the piles. The yellow sheets you can see sat under the reinforcement is heave protection. This is required when trees are in the vicinity and the ground is clay. The heave protection creates a void so when the concrete sets, there is a gap underneath the beam should the clay ever expand

Frequently Asked Questions About Piling in Manchester

How deep do piles go in Manchester?

The same as in any area, it depends on the ground where you are. On new build estates, the develops can massively alter levels from the original, meaning there could be a lot of back fill. Most piles don’t go massively deep but often go deeper than 4 metres. A job in Chorlton I did averaged around 6 metres deep with one at Walkden, the majority went 4 metres, but you do never know.

Which is the best or cheapest piling company/contractor in manchester?

Of course, we are the best :). Price wise, I regularly check pricing and we are usually at the bottom end, with most of us being very similar. My edge comes with me being on the job, ensuring the piles are driven correctly. I don’t take any short cuts and intend to be around a long time, so reputation matters to me. If you do get a cheaper quote, I will at least try to match it as long as it is like for like. I don’t have hidden charges that you aren’t expecting.

How much does mini piling cost in manchester?

I know it is annoying not having an answer but it depends on a few things, primarily how big the building is. Sometimes you will end up with piles and beam internally, or you may need heave protection if trees are nearby. If you send me the plans of your extension or a rough sketch with measurements on along with the reason for piling, I can usually get back to you pretty quick with a price. Email or Whatsapp me what you have.

can piling still be done with bad/restricted access in manchester?

Yes. Most piling is done with a mole, which you can see on the main page of my website. Two people carry it so access needs to be so that 2 people can pass through. The larger jobs such as full houses can use larger piles but if access is a problem, an engineer will design it with piles that the mole can drive. In terms of concreting, a wheel barrow needs to be able to access where ever is being piled.

Height wise, you need about 2.7 metres of head room, so say you are piling inside an existing building, it may need to be dug down to achieve this.
